Like Chuck Norris dressed in a suit, this ’14 GMC Sierra looks fancy but is ready for a throw down at any moment
A lot of full custom trucks are built with an in-your-face look, but what if you want a lifted truck and don’t want to stand out too much? Though Shaun Freilich has built several of these trucks with loud paint jobs, he had a vision to create a beast of a truck that’s not only aggressive but subtle enough to fit in high-class neighborhoods. The opportunity came for him to build what he truly wanted, so he ran with it.
Shaun does have a bit of a history when it comes to building badass trucks for him and others. What started as a hobby led him to a full-time business. His biggest break was in 2008 when he built a Toyota Tundra for the SEMA Show, which gained major attention and ultimately led to him opening Complete Customs in McKinney, Texas. A second shop in Odessa, Texas, followed shortly after.
Now with steady business, Shaun continues pushing the brand through custom truck builds and show appearances. When the new ’14 GM full-size trucks hit the market, he bought a 4×4 Sierra specifically to build for SEMA. With a rendering from KEG-Media, the plan was set.
Suspension & Stance
Shaun wanted the Sierra to have a substantial lift. Bulletproof Suspension offered a 12-inch kit, powder-coated brown by Cross Link Powder Coating. Icon Vehicle Dynamics coil-overs and remote-reservoir shocks were fitted along with a Firestone Ride Rite air spring kit. The truck rides on 38-inch Nitto Trail Grapplers.
Not only do the American Force Vector FP6 wheels have a slick design, but they come with three aluminum faceplates that were painted to match the truck.
Exterior Paint & Details
The paint scheme delivers a high-end, fashion-inspired look. Darren Wenzel of Garage Art designed graphics in muted dark brown and Dune Pearl Beige with orange and yellow striping. Shop logos were integrated into the graphics, and detailed pinstriping and gold leaf were added to the tailgate. Headlights were modified with Oracle LED strips and painted to match.
Shaun added a custom CC Edition grille with two 10-inch Rigid Industries LED lights and a large shop logo. The bumpers were also fitted with Rigid LEDs. The bed features a Bed Rug liner and customized Undercover SwingCases containing an Alpine audio system. Other exterior additions include an Undercover LUX tonneau cover and Amp Research PowerStep running boards.
Interior
The interior was cleanly customized with Nappa leather seats featuring Coffee Bean suede inserts from Alea Leather Specialist. The headliner was wrapped in Ultrasuede, and Alpine speakers replaced the factory door units. Two Alpine shallow subwoofers were installed under the rear bench.
Engine Upgrades
The Sierra’s 5.3L EcoTec3 V-8 lost some performance due to oversized wheels and tires. An Airaid cold-air intake, Magnaflow cat-back exhaust, and Edge Evolution CTS tuner were installed to improve drivability and recalibrate the speedometer.
